The end of the wor(l)d

When we talk about the end of the "world" the first step is asking ourselves: what does "world" mean? A first impression would be planet Earth, where we are living, but I think we're not talking about the end of the planet but talking about the human conception of world. If you pick up a dictionary and search this word, the first meaning is "everything that exists", but in that existence there are extraterrestrial things that don't belong to our planet, so they don't belong to "our world", they are outer space. The second meaning could be "every human being"or everyone, but we are not the only animal species neither the only form of life existing in this planet. A third meaning will say "human society", but again, there are too many "societies", so there are also a lot of worlds. This idea is reinforced by the later meanings, where every fragment of reality can be considered as a unique world. That being said, we must agree with a specific meaning of "world" to talk about its end.

The only thing I'm sure is that the word "world", like every other word that exists in a language, is a human construct, a concept used to refer to the unity of a totality. It's a difficult job considering the infinite amount of things that exists in this totality. Trying to synthetise so many different things into a single word, isn't it kind of lazy, too? I feel like it eclipses the complexity of the things we refer to with the word "world".

After all this unnecesary obvious statements, I think that the world ends (and begins) with humans. That doesn't mean the planet will die. Earth is wiser and older than all of our species, it had been through a lot of shit and is still suffering and it will keep that way until who knows when. We as humans are increasing its agony every second since a lot of time, but that only affects us and the other living beings that share our environment. We are killing us, killing animals, killing forests and trees, earth and water. And that will lead us to extinction, sooner or later. We are going to disappear as a species like a lot of other that had already dissapeared or are disappearing with us. And with us and our language, the concept of world will disappear too, we'll share our endings, our death. But the planet will be still alive and will recover from its wounds slowly. This doesn't mean that Earth is indestructible, it will die at some point, but I don't think it will happen soon. Yes, we are destroying it at a worrying pace, but we're going to autodestruct our species before we can realistically kill this planet. And maybe new forms of life will be born, after that. I hope they're not as chaotic, impactful and irresponsable as us.
